'Quorn take the points'

City welcomed Quorn Football Club to Claines Lane in front of 905 supporters, with City sitting second in the league, 4 points above 4th place Quorn. City looked to continue their looked to continue their incredible home record, having not lost a home league game in over 12 months.

Despite this, it was a nightmare start for City in the opening six minutes. Courney Grantham for Quorn managed to get the better of Charlie Wise who brought Grantham down in the penalty area. Wise was shown a straight red card and Quorn were awarded an early penalty. Ryan Beswick stepped up for Quorn and converted the spot kick. Despite this, City looked to respond quickly and came close to an equaliser 17 minutes into the match. Kyle Belmonte’s pass brilliantly picked out Liam Lockett who’s blistering pace allowed him to get in behind the Quorn defence with his effort being denied by Tom Allsopp.

29 minutes into the game Quorn came close to doubling their lead if it weren’t for the heroics of Logan Stoddart. A looping header from Jordan Gough found his attempt cleared off the line by Stoddart, ensuring City stayed in the game. City put this lifeline to good use just three minutes later. A Will Owens corner got the better of Quorn’s keeper Allsopp who looked to punch the ball clear. The resulting corner picked out a Hayden Reeves in the centre of the box who headed the ball home! A great response from Reeves in his first league game back since his red card away at Corby.

Despite City’s hard work to get back in the game, Quorn responded quickly after the half time break as it took just four minutes for them to regain their lead. Courney Grantham scored a spectacular bicycle kick from Goodson header across goal.

Having just ten men, City struggled to create any chances in the second half and in the 83rd minute Quorn managed to get their third. Silvio Bello’s low cross into the box found Paddy Webb who deftly finished passed Whitcombe. As the game was coming to a close, Zac Goodson’s effort managed to get Quorn’s fourth and his first goal for the club as he fired the ball into the bottom corner. City drop down to third, with Quorn closing the gap on Worcester to just one point with a game in hand. A day to forget for City, who look to get back to winning ways next Saturday, as we travel to Grantham Town.
