James Batchelor - Impressive Start

James Batchelor - Impressive Start

Kev Preece30 Mar 2023 - 09:49

"Youngster impresses"

At Racing Club Warwick, James Batchelor made his full City debut at the age of just 16.

He was the standout performer in that game, getting stuck in and at times looking dangerous when driving at the opposition defence.

With an impressive debut showing it made the decision to start him in the game against Studley an easy one, of course he again showed no fear and took more plaudits from the City Faithful that were in attendance.

James’s emergence continues to show that a pathway for young players from youth to first team exists, following the footsteps in recent years of Willis, Lockett, Monteith and Schuck to name a few.

On the impressive appearances so far by James, manager Chris Cornes commented "After watching the Under 18’s on a couple of occasions Batch consistently stood out for me. I had a good chat with Rob Humphries, the manager, and I invited Batch training to see how he would take to it.

"Straight away you could see he has developed ahead of his age and needed to be tested.

"He’s performed really well and has deserved the chances he’s had to play. The other lads trust him and that’s good to see.

"My belief is, if you’re good enough then you’re old enough!

"It’s now about nurturing Batch for the rest of the season and then kicking him on in pre-season to help him develop and be a part of the team going forward.

"He hasn’t stopped smiling since being with us. He is a Worcester lad and his family are City fans. It must be a proud moment for the family watching him over the last month or so being part of the first team.

"There are a number of players in the Under 18’s that have great potential and it’s now down to myself as manager and our reserve team manager to try and unlock their full potential and prepare them for men’s football going forward.

It’s paramount there is a pathway at this club and I want to be more hands-on to insure there is".
