We were saddened to hear that former Director Laurie Brown had recently passed away following a short illness.
A life-long City fan, Laurie was one of the many boys who took the afternoon off from school to watch us beat Liverpool in the F.A. Cup in January 1959.
He was first appointed as a Director in 1991, at a point when Worcester City’s financial affairs were in disarray. He used his skills as an accountant to help sort things out, working quietly behind the scenes alongside a number of other loyal fans who came together to rescue the Club. Probably only Laurie will know just how many hours he spent working on our accounts, but without him we might not have survived.
During his time here Laurie also ran the club office and was often the first voice you would hear on the end of the phone. Laurie took over managing the Supergold competition in 2001 and helped to raise many thousands of pounds.
He stood down in 2009, having spent 18 years as a director, many of them as Vice-Chairman.
City Chairman Steve Goode said: “Laurie did a lot of work over the years for Worcester City FC, someone that was very approachable and always had a smile on his face. Even though his involvement was limited more recently he still followed the process of the club on and off the field of play. On behalf of the Club we would like to send our heartfelt condolences to Lynn and family.”
