WCFC U10s Footy distance challenge! COMPLETED!!!

Simon Fletcher14 Feb 2021 - 20:57

Cover 300 miles as a team, by any means! for Diabetes UK. Read the article below to see how the boys got on....spoiler alert, they did FANTASTIC!!!!!!

As with everything, the last year has been tough. We saw the end of our 2019/2020 season cut short and the 2020/2021 season has been stopped and started lots of times! It’s now the second time that we have had to hang up our football boots with a return date looking uncertain.

The WCFC U10s youth team wanted to come up with something that would keep us active and football fit during this lockdown, whilst making sure we helped our mental health along the way. And so the challenge was set!

Individually, each member of the team participated and as a team we aimed to cover 300 miles in a four week period. The idea was that these miles could be completed adhering to the current COVID-19 guidelines and in whichever way we dreamt up: running, walking, swimming, cycling, dribbling a football...anything goes! We decided that every half mile helped, and no distance was too little to log. Keeping us active was the important part!!

With Diabetes UK being close to the teams heart (we also advertise the charity on the back of our kits), we thought that we could raise some money and give something back whilst keeping us busy.

The WCFC U10s youth team started this challenge on 9th January 2021 and over the four week period to 7th February 2021 they smashed the target of 300 miles out of the park with a grand total of 382 miles covered. In the process the boys have raised a massive £714 for Diabetes UK, WOW great going boys! This is an epic outcome and worthy of any of the results the boys have gained on the pitch, as we know this contribution is going to an organisation battling to find a cure for diabetes.
