City ran out 1-0 away winners at Wellingborough Town yesterday evening in a tough battle between two sides at the top end of the table.
Following terrible driving conditions to Northamptonshire, with a number of players arriving to the ground late, the Blue and Whites actually started the strongest. Within 2 minutes, Felix Miles sat his defender down but blazed over from just outside the 6-yard box.
Haydn Whitcome was called in to action, spectacularly flying across his goal to tip a free kick on to the post and behind for a corner, before then being quick off his mark to snuff out a 1-on-1 chance. The first half ended goalless.
The second half was an untidy affair, with numerous cards and breaks in play. Midway through the half, the Boro goalkeeper went down in discomfort, forcing the hosts to move their centre-back into the sticks. We wish the Wellingborough keeper a quick recovery, as he left the field on crutches and a brace.
Substitute Dylan Hart was the difference maker as the clock ticked towards 80 minutes. A lofted Adam Mace corner deflected off a head into Hart's path. The forward made no mistake, smashing it home from 10 yards out.
The closing stages were tense, but the Blue and Whites held on to pick up a valuable, and hard-earned 3 points away in Northamptonshire.
City continue the league campaign on Saturday as they travel to Coventry Sphinx for a 3pm kick off.
