Todays look back through our Photo Archives was taken prior to City's game v Telford on 12th September 1977.
England World Cup hero Geoff Hurst drew a crowd of 2,058 to St Georges Lane for a Southern League match. Hurst almost joined City the previous summer but we couldn't afford him and he went onto become player-manager at Telford. City won the game 2-1 with goals from Malcolm Phelps and Roger Shaw. Hurst is shown here alongside City skipper Lionel Martin and local estate agent Andrew Grant, who sponsored the match.
City finished up in 4th place in the league with John Barton leading the way in appearances playing 65 times out of the 70 games.
Our average crowd for the season in the League was 1483
