Match report by Gary Watkins

Worcester City entertained Cheltenham in their final group cup fixture and were comprehensively beaten.

Q1
The first quarter saw both sides struggle to get the ball down and play on a very hard surface. City should have taken the lead in the 6th minute when Kyle Clayton was put through after some neat one touch passing between Adam Willis and Jake Brookes but the striker hit the shot straight at the keeper.

Clayton did have the ball in the net in the 10th minute after a hectic goal mouth scramble but the referee disallowed the goal after he judged the ball had struck a City arm. Cheltenham's efforts in the quarter were mainly from set pieces but the City defence held firm.

Q2
The second quarter saw both sides settle a little and create more chances. Midfielder Henry Guy had a shot saved by the visitors keeper before Ashton Doyle's long range effort just clipped the bar. Cheltenham thought they had taken the lead after a mistake in the City goal but it was judged offside.

Cheltenham were now pressing hard and started to dominate but they found themselves trailing after being hit on the break from their own corner. City's clearance found Kyle Clayton who held the ball up superbly before linking with Jake Brookes and Adam Clayton who slid in the Advancing Ashton Doyle who coolly slotted the ball past the visitors keeper. The visitors finished the quarter the strongest and won several free kicks that tested the city defence but the score remained 1-0

Q3
Both teams made substitutions at the start of the third quarter in an effort to gain control but with the visitors pressing hard and City conceding needless free kicks, Cheltenham looked like levelling the score with a couple of free kicks but Louis Hudson in the city goal dealt with the threat despite one of the free kicks striking the cross bar.

Cheltenham's relentless pressure paid off with the goal they deserved in the 48th minute after some neat passing down the right saw Jayden Bee finish with a great strike. Cheltenham were now dominating the game in all areas with city being pinned in their own half and conceding more free kicks it wasn't long before they took the lead. Harley Mulraney struck a speculative free kick from 30 yards which found the home net.

City's only threat came from Clayton but his effort was well smothered by the advancing keeper. The visitors finished the quarter strongly but city kept the deficit to one with some resolute defending and blocks from Jay Bennet and Liam Rickets.

Q4
The final quarter city changed their formation pushing Doyle up front to join Clayton in search of the equaliser and it nearly worked but Doyle's superbly struck shot just went wide. In the 68th minute Cheltenham extended their lead with a carbon copy long range free kick from Mulraney which again found its way into the goal.

The visitors now had the bit between their teeth and deservedly scored a fourth with a thunderous finish from the right by Sam Elliot. It wasn't a surprise when a misplaced pass saw Casper Stanita through on the city goal and he showed great composure to slit the ball home and give the visitors a deserved victory 5-1.
