Match report by Dave Francis

Following an improved performance against Stoke, WCFC U11s faced an inform Halesowen. The weather conditions were best described as “changeable”, at worst “horrendous”.

The game started at a pace, with both sides trading blows in a frenetic start. Both sides threatened at corners but there was very little between the two sides. WCFC went behind following a corner, which we had the opportunity to prevent, and owed to fortune with their goal scorer knowing little about the connection that put them in front.

The first period was the highlight for WCFC, with what followed a further lesson for the boys. Halesowen were awarded (a debatable) penalty which they dispatched and they soon hit WCFC on the break in quick succession to extend the lead further.

That was the story for the remainder of the game, with WCFC conceding goals in bursts, interspersed with periods of occasional parity. Again WCFC wasted opportunities only to be sucker punched through quality attacking play, some through defensive frailties and others just fantastic finishes.

The final period saw us grow in to the game more, with some good interplay and we were unfortunate not to score with some good saves from the Halesowen keeper. However the burst of goals from Halesowen continued, especially down our right.

To their credit the boys kept battling to the end despite the scoresheet.

GOLD
One of only a handful of the side that can genuinely say they took the battle to the opposition, with a display full of work rate, tackling, distribution and nuisance. Well done Ben.

SILVER
If it wasn’t for Isaacs commanding performance at Centre Back the score line could have been worse. He put his body on the line and always played on the front foot.

BRONZE
Caleb was dangerous whenever he was on the ball, we just couldn’t get it to him often enough. His calmness and assurance on the ball oozed class.
