Saturday saw the lionesses of Worcester city take on the panthers of Evesham united.
It was going to be a battle but was it going to be a feline affair or a cat fight.
The first half saw the speed of the panthers beating the slower but more powerful lionesses.
The panthers gained an early penalty to take the lead shortly followed by a long range effort with the ball coming down with snow on it to lob the goalie. It was an effort that would have even lobbed Peter Crouch.
So the girls came off losing 0-2 at half time.
After a team talk about energy and speed the lionesses came out roaring and played much better in the second half.
The lionesses were continually pegging the panthers back in the den of their own penalty box. It’s fair to say the defence of the pack of panthers out numbered the lionesses attack.
The lionesses had many shots either saved by their goalie, saved by there many defensive players or the post.
The good work of the lionesses were rewarded by Sophie Guest gaining a goal.
Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as in the end as they lost 1-3 but they fought to the end.
Man of the match was very well deserved by Matilda Penny who proved she had the heart of a lion playing very well composed football in many positions.
