The Cup fixtures keep coming thick and fast for City as we face Rugby Borough this weekend in the FA Vase at Claines Lane, 3pm KO.
Chris Cornes' men will look to brush off last weekend's FA Cup defeat to higher league opposition in Leek Town and get back to winning ways in this one. That result was City's first defeat in seven games, a run stretching back to August 22nd. And a rare midweek break with no fixture could be just the tonic to get City back on track and into the next round.
Midfielder Connor Gater missed out last Saturday after a late fitness test, and City fans will be hopeful that he is fit and able to return to the starting line-up, after his presence in midfield was missed against Leek. It's been four starts in a row in the centre forward slot for Kyonn Evans, whose work rate continues to impress the City Faithful despite not managing to score as of yet this season, and he looks to have made the number 9 shirt his own.
Liam Lockett and Jamie Insall were withdrawn midway through the second half on Saturday, and it will be interesting to see which front three Cornes opts for in this one, with Elliott Hartley and Izak Reid also vying for starting positions.
This week striker Zaq Hussain has opted to move permanently from the club, and we wish him well in his next move.
Logan Stoddart and Cam Monteith have both been locked in a battle in recent weeks for the starting right-back position, with Stoddart retaining his position last time out.
Our visitors Rugby Borough, meanwhile, currently sit in 17th place in the United Counties Premier Division South, also at Step 5 of the Non-League Pyramid. They have lost their most recent two league fixtures by the same score line, 3-0, away from home, but managed to overcome FC Stratford in the last round of the Vase to make it to Saturday's match.
