The FA Cup returns to Claines Lane on Saturday as City take on Leek Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the competition.
After making it past Dudley Town, Westfields and Sherwood Colliery to get to this stage, fans will hope that this isn’t quite the end of the cup dream this season as we take on higher league opposition in Leek Town.
The Staffordshire outfit, who play in the Northern Premier League West, have themselves faced Belper Town and Grimsby Borough in this year’s competition. They current sit in 10th place in their league table, but with a game in hand on most teams around them, and have scored five goals in each of their last two games.
City themselves have won all of their last six games in a row, scoring 23 goals in the process, including five midweek at Westfields in the Floodlit Cup. With both sides in such fantastic attacking form, it might be expected to rain goals on Saturday.
Manager Cornes rang the changes on Tuesday night with starts for young players including Reece Day and James Batchelor, the latter coming off injured in the first half and may be expected to miss this fixture. It was the substitutes though who sealed the win, with goals from Insall and Belmonte sealing progress in that particular competition.
A bumper crowd is expected for this one which could see City break the Claines Lane attendance record for the second time in a month, after 912 attended the Pershore Town league game, followed by just shy of 850 last weekend. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets ahead of time.
