After a 10 day rest following last weekend's home league fixture postponement, City are back in FA Vase action this weekend with a trip to Wolverhampton Casuals for a Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
City overcame Sleaford Town 2-0 in the last round, and are on a run of nine wins in a row in all competitions. Cup competitions have seen City continue to field strong sides so far this season despite the focus on the league, with boss Cornes looking for success on all fronts.
Our hosts for Saturday's fixture, meanwhile, overcame Whittlesea Athletic 3-1 in the last round to make it to this stage of the competition. It's been over two weeks since Casuals' last fixture, where they fell to a 4-3 Cup defeat to our previous Vase opponents, AFC Bridgnorth. Wolverhampton are currently 15th in the Midland Football League Premier Division table.
City and Wolverhampton Casuals of course both played in the Midland Football League last season before City's switch across to the Hellenic League. Worcester finished the season one place and four points above Casuals in 17th position, but lost both league fixtures by the same scoreline, 2-1. Some possible extra motivation there for the side sitting top of the Hellenic League at present.
In stark contrast to last season, City are bang in form all over the pitch. Liam Lockett and Kyle Belmonte each bagged a brace in last Wednesday's 5-1 victory over Hereford Lads Club, taking their own goal tallies to 16 and 13 respectively for the season in all competitions. This week goalkeeper Haydn Whitcombe was named as City's Player of the Month for October after a string of confident displays, including Vase penalty heroics last time out against Sleaford. Other players nominated included Logan Stoddart and Elliott Keightley, emphasising the strength across the squad at Cornes' disposal currently.
City scored 20 goals in 6 games in the month of October, with a further 5 in last week's victory over Lads Club to start off November. Fans making the short trip to Wolverhampton on Saturday will be hoping that trend continues.
Wolverhampton Casuals play at Brinsford Stadium, Brinsford Lane, Wolverhampton, WV10 7PR.
