It's third time lucky on Tuesday evening as City take on Walsall Wood in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Replay, following the abandonment of last Tuesday's fixture in Walsall.
After just over 140 minutes' play, nothing has been able to separate the two sides so far, with a home tie with Dudley Town this Saturday awaiting the winner of Tuesday's game. City kicked-off the new league season in style on Saturday, coming from a goal down to run out 4-1 winners over Antsey Nomads, who themselves had finished 6th at Step 4 in the Ishmen League Premier last season.
Charlie Wise was the star of the show on Saturday, a commanding performance and two goals from the centre of defence capping an exceptional performance for one of City's summer signings. Will Owens, another new recruit, also scored the pick of the goals with a long-range, left-footed rocket for City's fourth of the afternoon, capping off an excellent team performance.
Wood themselves kicked-off the new season with a 2-2 draw away at Grantham Town, coming from behind to salvage a point late in the game. Anderson and Funge got their goals on a tough afternoon for one of the league favourites.
City's win on Saturday was a rare victory on the opening day of the new league campaign, and even last season's Centurions squad only started the season with a 0-0 draw with Tuffley Rovers, something that City boss Chris Cornes was delighted with post match. After the game Chris spoke to WCFC TV and commented on Antsey's record from last season, and his side's perfomance.
'I think we could have scored a few more goals to be honest; we left a few out there through lack of composure and a bit of quality in front of goal. But on the whole you can't really grumble with the result,' commented Chris after the game.
Tuesday's second attempt at the Replay will take place at Claines Lane, a 7.45pm kick off. For this fixture we have THREE car parks available:
On site at Claines Lane, available only by pre-booking through the club shop here;
and at both RGS The Grange & The River School, both a short walk from the ground with cash payable on entry. Please note both car parks close roughly 10 minutes before kick off.
