Following Tuesday night's hard-fought win over Walsall Wood in the third episode of our Extra Preliminary Round tie, City now face Dudley Town as both sides aim to reach the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.
It's been a bright start to the season for Chris Cornes' side, winning their last two games in a row following the 0-0 draw with Walsall Wood in the previous round, with both wins coming against sides considered to be in the running for promotion this season.
One man who has certainly impressed in the opening games of the season is Charlie Wise. From the heart of defence Charlie has begun his City career with two clean sheets, and that impressive brace against Anstey Nomads, in his three games so far. Wise and another new signing, Hayden Reeves, seem to have struck up a good partnership already, in the absence of Elliott Keightley.
Zac Guinan also opened his City account on Tuesday evening with the winner against Wood with a well-taken finish to seal City's progress into the next round. It seems as though City's new recruits both in the front line and further back have already settled in well to Cornes' squad.
There don't appear to be any injury concerns heading into Saturday's fixture meaning Cornes may have a full squad to pick from. It seems as though in the early stages of this season a midfield trio has become pretty settled - Calvin Dinsley and Kyle Belmonte being joined by Nathan Hayward, with that not having changed so far in the campaign. The defence also has remained unchanged so far, with those aforementioned additions of Wise and Reeves coming in to complement Mace and Stoddart well.
The forward three has been where there has so far been some rotation, where we've already seen last season's stars Lockett, Hartley, Hart and Reid joined by Guinan, Owens and Bates thus far. It will be interesting to see which trio Cornes opts for this weekend against a Step 5 opponent, with a midweek home league fixture against Racing Club Warwick coming up on Tuesday.
Our opponents on Saturday, Dudley Town, have also had a positive start to their season. They followed up their 3-0 FA Cup win in the previous round Sporting Club Inkberrow with an opening day 2-0 league win over Studley, before a midweek 1-1 draw with Atherstone that sees them in sixth position at this early stage of the season in the Midland Football League. Dan Jones has two goals in their three games so far this season and would appear to be one to watch heading into Saturday's tie.
