Worcester City take on Alvechurch FC at Malvern Town’s HDAnywhere Stadium in the final of the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup on Wednesday 9th April, in a 7:45pm kick-off.
Despite being only separated by 20 miles, this match will be the first competitive fixture between the two sides in quite some time. The last time the first teams met was a pre-season friendly back in 2020, which ended 3-1 to Alvechurch at Lye Meadow.
A win for Worcester would see the club lift the cup for the 29th time. This would make the Blue and Whites the most successful team in the competition's history, overtaking Kidderminster Harriers, who sit level on the number of wins.
City have something of a perfect record in the competition, having not conceded a single goal in their three wins to reach the final, overcoming away trips to Sporting Club Inkberrow (4-0), Redditch United (1-0) and Worcester Raiders (2-0).
Alvechurch have won the competition five times previously and will be looking to go back-to-back, as reigning Champions. The Church have been impressive on route to the final, coming back from being 2-0 down and one man down to take their quarter-final against Stourbridge to penalties. They also defeated local neighbours Bromsgrove Sporting in the semis. The form guide makes for bad reading for The Church, with no wins in their last 6 league games, their last league victory coming again over Bromsgrove on the 11th March.
City sit 5th in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division, and have also faltered as late, with only 2 wins in their last 5 fixtures. Alvechurch sit 13th in the Southern League Premier Central, the level above the Blue And Whites. Both teams will be looking to turn around their form as they go head to head in the hunt for silverware on Wednesday evening.
The final will be played at the HDAnywhere Stadium, Langland Ave, Malvern, WR14 2EQ.
