It’s a case a déjà vu as City face Westfields on Tuesday night, this time at home and in a league fixture, after Saturday’s dramatic ending to their FA Cup clash.
After rotating the starting eleven due to availability issues on Saturday, boss Cornes will be hoping on the return of some key players ahead of a tricky league fixture.
Prior to Saturday’s cup match, Westfields had won one, drawn one, and lost one of their three games so far in the Hellenic League. Their most recent league fixture was that defeat at our neighbours Worcester Raiders last Tuesday, a match in which they were reportedly unlucky not to take anything from.
Our travelling fans who made the trip to Herefordshire on Saturday will know that Westfields are capable of causing problems for anyone at our level. Chris Cornes admitted in his interview with WCFCTV immediately after Saturday’s fixture that he’d given the team a ‘bit of a roasting’ at half-time following in his opinion a below par first half display, and a performance in which he felt his side could have been two or three goals down in. City will need to be switched on from minute one to make sure of a positive result.
It’s a full round of league fixtures this midweek and City will want to keep pace with the sides around them, even at this early stage of the season. Striker Dylan Hart returned to the starting line-up on Saturday with a goal and an assist for Layton’s late winner, proving a key focal point up top, particularly in the second half. Layton himself will also be hoping that his own cameo might be enough to secure him a starting role in the side.
