This Saturday we take on Brimscombe & Thrupp in our fourth Hellenic League game on the bounce, as we look to make it seven wins in a row in the league.
Our visitors currently sit in 15th place in the table, but are in a good run of form after a well-earned point away at Worcester Raiders last weekend, and a midweek win against bottom of the table Wantage Town 3-1. Brimscombe are unbeaten in their last three league games, also overcoming Thornbury Town in that time, and will be looking to continue that run of form at Claines Lane.
Top scorer Jack Hughes helped himself to a brace in midweek, taking him to five goals for the season.
Following our own midweek win against a spirited Tuffley Rovers, confidence in the team is high and after 12 goals in our last two appearances, City fans will be hoping our goalscoring form continues in this one.
Elliott Hartley continued his fine form in midweek with another two goals, both equalisers for Chris Cornes' men. He's again proving to be a hugely important cog in this season's machine, as he was last year.
Liam Lockett and Kyle Belmonte also bagged goals in Gloucester, making them both joint-top scorers in the league so far this campaign on 10 goals each. They are joined by Jamie Insall, also on 10 goals, and Jamal Lawrence of Fairfield, meaning three City players are amongst the four top scorers in the league.
Our midweek win closed the gap to the league leaders Corsham Town, as they dropped points losing at home to Roman Glass St George. That result leaves City two points off top, with two games in hand.
Cornes has only made a couple of tweaks to his starting line-up in recent games, and against Tuffley this was Insall and Reid coming in to replace Hart and Thompson Brown. Logan Stoddart seems to have made the right back slot his own in recent weeks but with games continuing to come thick and fast, and a midweek trip to Lydney on the cards, we may see some rotation in the squad in the coming games.
Connor Gater continues his rehabilitation from injury and fans will be hopeful of his return in the coming games. Fans were also delighted to see a return, albeit to the bench, for Kyonn Evans midweek.
Our Match Sponsor for Saturday's fixture are Sands United Worcester. Next Tuesday is World Mental Health Day, and next week also marks Baby Loss Awareness Week 2023. Sands Charity work to support anyone affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby, and also carry out vital work to improve maternity safety through research, and campaigning for change. Members of their team are our guests today and we will be inviting them on to the pitch for pre-match photographs. Please give them a warm welcome to Claines Lane.
