City will aim to bounce back from the midweek Worcestershire Senior Cup defeat to Droitwich Spa when they entertain third-placed Royal Wootton Bassett and return to Hellenic League action on Saturday afternoon.
City have won 10 straight games in the league, a run stretching back to mid-August, but were overtaken at the top of the table this week as Corsham Town beat Lydney Town 4-2 on Tuesday evening. That result moves Corsham three points clear at the top of the league, but City now with four games in hand on their title rivals.
Royal Wootton Bassett, meanwhile, have been on a good recent run of form themselves that has seen them climb to third place in the league table. They have won four out of the last five in the league, but needed a late winner to get past Longlevens in the FA Vase at the weekend. Alfie Presley has returned to the club following a summer switch to Corsham Town, and has notched five goals in seven games so far this season, including four in the club's last three games, making him a key man to watch for the visitors.
City boss Cornes made three changes to his starting line-up in midweek with Sheehan, Hartley and Reid replacing Layton, Hart and Belmonte from the FA Vase win over Wolverhampton Casuals. On Saturday it will be interesting to see if any of the aforementioned did enough to keep their place in the side, or whether the three changes will come straight back in to the starting eleven.
Liam Lockett continued his excellent goalscoring form on Tuesday night, bagging the only goal of the game for City just before half time. Lockett now has 17 for the campaign in all competitions, and has scored at least once in City's last six games in all competitions, notching seven goals in that time.
Tuesday evening was also the first time that City have failed to score at least twice in a game since the mid-September FA Cup defeat to Leek Town. Goals haven't been hard to come by recently, and The Faithful will hope that a return to goalscoring form is on the cards for Saturday.
