City begin a run of three games in just five games on Saturday when they host Fairford Town at a new venue, Malvern Town’s HDAnywhere Community Stadium, a 3pm kick off in the Hellenic Premier Division.
Following the disappointment of the sell-out Boxing Day fixture with Worcester Raiders being postponed at Claines Lane, and the terrible weather that has followed, the club have elected to utilise Malvern Town’s 3G pitch to ensure they don’t fall any further behind in games played. Following the postponement on the 26th, and Corsham Town’s 1-0 victory over Mangotsfield United, we are back to having played four games less than our nearest rivals, and that number would have stretched to six games had the Fairford and Highworth matches not been possible at Claines Lane.
A huge thank you to Malvern Town for their support and willingness to have the club use their pitch, and special mention to Kevin Preece for arranging the fixture with Fairford.
Corsham’s win on Boxing Day has drawn them level on points with City. Our visitors on Saturday, Fairford, who we drew 1-1 with early in December, currently sit just outside the play off places in 7th, with two games in hand themselves on fifth placed Pershore Town. They have won both league matches since the City draw, over Cinderford Town and Worcester Raiders, and are unbeaten in their last five matches.
City meanwhile, following the 2-1 victory over Corsham on the 23rd December, head into the busiest period of the campaign in fine form. Goals in both halves from Dylan Hart and Izak Reid secured the victory, and an inspired display from Haydn Whitcombe helped to ensure the three points, including a first half penalty save.
Dylan Hart’s opener moved the striker on to 11 goals for the season in all competitions, the fourth City player to get to double figures, following Liam Lockett, Kyle Belmonte and Jamie Insall. Belmonte was also awarded City’s Goal of the Month for November on Thursday after the supporter vote on social media.
It’s a home game that may feel like an away fixture, but The Faithful will be delighted with more festive fixtures to feast on.
