City head back down the M5 to Bristol on Saturday afternoon to face the only side left in the Hellenic Premier Division who they haven't played so far this season in Mangotsfield United, as the club's title challenge continues into 2024.
City have collected 10 points from an available 12 over the last two weeks, starting with the Corsham victory at Claines Lane on he 23rd December, up to the 4-2 victory away at Roman Glass on Wednesday evening. Even more impressive is that seven of those points came in the space of five days between 30th December and 3rd January, seeing City move back to the top of the table with three games in hand on our nearest rivals.
Our hosts on Saturday afternoon, Mangotsfield United, themselves collected six points over the same period. They kicked off their festive period with a 2-1 away victory over Hereford Lads Club, before narrowly being beaten by Corsham Town on Boxing Day. They were then beaten at home 3-1 by Cinderford Town before winning 3-0 away at our neighbours Worcester Raiders on New Year's Day. Mangotsfield currently sit in 11th place in the Hellenic Premier Division table and in a congested mid table, where nine points separate Pershore Town in fifth, and Mangotsfield in 11th.
Despite being in mid table, Mangotsfield possess the league's top scorer so far this season in their ranks in Jadyn Crosbie. Jadyn has 20 goals in 23 league appearances this season, and a total of 27 in 31 games in all competitions. Jadyn scored their second against Worcester Raiders on 1st January, and in the league is four goals clear of his nearest competition for the Golden Boot, Fairford's Jamal Lawrence, with Liam Lockett a goal behind on 15.
Saturday will be City's fourth fixture this week but Cornes will no doubt want to keep the games coming with the form that his side are in right now. City's last eight league fixtures have all come against sides in the top seven of the current league table, with the team remaining unbeaten in that run, winning five and drawing three.
In fact, City have still only lost once this season, that solitary defeat being the 2-1 home loss to Westfields in August. They are unbeaten away from home in all competitions, too.
Connor Gater missed the 4-2 victory over Roman Glass in midweek after being substituted late on in the Highwoth victory, and The Faithful will hope that this was a case of resting the midfielder, who with Calvin Dinsley has proved to be so important to Cornes' side this season. James Batchelor impressed on Wednesday, earning himself a starting spot and working hard for the team, and for Chris to have this kind of strength in depth at this point in the season will be particularly pleasing.
Dylan Hart and Kyle Belmonte have certainly been City's men in form throughout recent weeks. Hart has scored in each of his last five appearances since the decisive goal against Boston Town in the FA Vase, and Belmonte has five in his last six, and goals in each of the last three matches.
