A first half Liam Lockett hat-trick against Brimscombe & Thrupp ensured City recorded a historic 19th consecutive victory on Saturday. However, the games are coming thick and fast for city, with a tricky test on the horizon on Tuesday night as they travel to Royal Wootton Bassett Town.
This is because Bassett currently sit third in the league table, one place behind City. Bassett are on a mixed run of form this season as they have lost two of their last five games, but are coming fresh off of their own victory against Brimscombe & Thrupp, a 4-0 win back on the 16th March, and haven't played since. In addition to this, it will be the last remaining home game of the season for Bassett who will be looking to end their home campaign on a high, with their sights set firmly on the play offs at the end of the season. The danger man for Bassett will be Alfie Presley. He currently sits as their top goal scorer this season, and also netted twice in their 4-0 win last weekend.
In the reverse fixture this season, Worcester were 4-0 winners on the 18th November. The prolific Lockett (9’ 28’) and Belmonte (57’ 81’) both secured a brace in front of 825 City supporters at Claines Lane.
For City however, an extremely busy and congested fixture period has not stopped them fighting for silverware on all fronts. Remaining in the three competitions available, having also just won the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup last Wednesday.
Dylan Hart returned off the bench on Saturday after missing the midweek cup final win, grabbing himself a goal with a penalty in added time. Jamie Insall has been missing for the last two matches and City fans will be hoping he will be available for this important fixture.
It’s the second of back-to-back league games for City who currently sit second, one point off top spot, with five games in hand over first place Corsham. A win would mean City go top of the league for at least 24 hours with Corsham returning to league activity on Wednesday.
Royal Wootton Bassett Town play at the Sustain Wiltshire Stadium (previously know as the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground), Brinkworth Road, Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, SN4 8DS. Admission is £7 for Adults, and £4 for Concessions.
