A change of scenery this weekend for City as our home fixture with Longlevens AFC moves to Sixways, as Chris Cornes' side continue their hunt for the Hellenic Premier Division title.
With Corsham Town not in action this weekend due to Highworth's re-arranged FA Vase Last 16 tie, City have the opportunity to put points between the two teams and tick one game off their remaining tally for the season, after recent cup progress and postponements.
Confidence in the camp remains high as evidenced by Saturday's comprehensive win over local rivals Stourport Swifts. The 5-1 scoreline wasn't anticipated by many inside Walshes Meadow and City will look to build on that performance, which must rank up their with the best of the season so far.
Visitors to Worcester this Saturday, Longlevens AFC, currently reside in 16th place in the Hellenic Premier Division table. Where City were yet again left with a break in the schedule after Tuesday's visit to Thornbury Town was postponed, Longlevens did manage to play, and visited Royal Wootton Bassett Town where they were beaten 3-0. 'Levens' have lost their last three league games, but did pick up an impressive victory over Fairford Town at the end of January, and have also picked up impressive scalps throughout the season with wins over Slimbridge and Highworth too, and they also held Corsham to a draw back in November.
City boss Cornes was forced to make a number of alterations to his starting line-up for Saturday's game, with Dylan Hart, Connor Gater, Calvin Dinsley and Elliott Keightley a number of those unavailable, due to a mixture of injury and other commitments. But those who came in to the eleven, including Cam Monteith and new signing Chris Knight, staked their own claims with excellent performances, whilst Jordan Lymn continued to prove what a shrewd signing he has been for the club with another excellent performance in midfield. Much of what City did on the day came through Lymn in the number 8 shirt.
Jordan Lymn and Cam Monteith have also this week been awarded City's Player & Goal of the Month Awards respectively, and congratulations to both.
Kyle Belmonte continued his own season-long run of good form with a brace at Swifts, taking him to 29 for the season in all competitions. His first in particular, a nonchalant finish lofted over the head of the Stourport keeper, thrilled the travelling Faithful as City's star man booked their place in the Quarter Finals.
Jamie Insall led the line for City on Saturday and also drew plenty of plaudits, for his work rate as well as his goal, assisting Kyle Belmonte's first and also for his flick in the build-up to Liam Lockett's goal. His goal, a header almost a carbon copy of Kirk Layton's opener, was his 22nd in all competitions this season.
A quality and in-form group of players, who will no doubt relish the opportunity Saturday brings to put breathing space between City and the chasing pack.
