City face Pershore Town this Saturday in the final league game of this mammoth 2023/24 season, officially ending the 45 year wait for a league title for the club on what is sure to be a day of huge celebrations for the players, management and coaching team, and everyone associated with the football club.
Following Thursday night's final home game City head to local rivals Pershore Town for the last fixture of this league season, hoping to send The Faithful home with yet another three points, which would send Chris Cornes’ side over the 100 point total to 101, and write a further chapter into the club's history as Centurions.
It's been a near-perfect league campaign for Chris Cornes' side with only a single loss so far in the league, all the way back in August, and a recent run which saw the club win sixteen league games in a row until Thursday night’s 1-1 draw with Hereford Lads Club.
With an extremely high amount of games in the last few weeks, the City side was rotated on Thursday evening following Monday night’s 2-0 away win at Cinderford Town. Taylor Townsend received a start with Elliott Hartley on the opposite flank, whilst Liam Lockett and Izak Reid started the match from the bench. Calvin Dinsley was given the night off and so Cameron Monteith partnered Jordan Lymn in midfield. There don’t appear to be any major injury issues for City going into this final league game.
Kyle Belmonte got the only goal of the game on Thursday to take his overall tally for the season to 41 goals, but also 30 in the Hellenic League, putting him a goal clear of Mangotsfield’s Jadyn Crosbie and now looks nailed-on to be awarded the league’s golden boot, an incredible achievement for a number 10.
Pershore Town this week confirmed the re-appointment of ex-boss Danny Janes ahead of the 2024/25 season. Janes left Pershore following their promotion to Step 5 at the end of 2022/23, but will return to the club in the summer.
After starting the campaign brightly and still being around the Playoff places at Christmas, it's been a tough end of the season for Pershore who have dropped to 11th place ahead of the season's final game. They have lost their last two games and have one win in five. A win would see them finish 10th due to a better goal difference than Worcester Raiders.
Pershore Town play at Community Stadium, King George's Way, Pershore, WR10 1QU. Tickets are only available on the gate and are priced at £6 for Adults, and £3 for Concessions.
