Following midweek Cup success, it's a return to Hellenic Premier Division action this Saturday and City's main goal for the season, promotion, as we take on Brimscombe & Thrupp on Saturday afternoon at 3pm.
Following the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup, first leg win last Tuesday evening, where Roman Glass had created a number of opportunities especially in the second half and hit the woodwork a number of times, it was expected that Wednesday evening's second leg would be a much closer affair. But two Jordan Lymn goals either side of half time, and a Calvin Dinsley header in the first half took full control of the tie for Chris Cornes' side, and late efforts from Liam Lockett and Izak Reid added the cherry on top of a fantastic team display.
The cup success was City's first in a non-WFA-related cup since 2001, the first trophy of the Chris Cornes era at the club.
Cornes utilised all five of his substitutes on Wednesday evening including goalkeeper Joe Stockton, who was a late introduction for Haydn Whitcombe. Izak Reid and Taylor Townsend also got minutes from the bench and Kyonn Evans managed 80 minutes of the game, coming off late on for Chris Knight.
One slight concern for The Faithful heading into a still-packed fixture schedule will be the absence from the squad of some key men on Wednesday. Both Jamie Insall and Dylan Hart were in attendance at Roman Glass but neither featured in the 18, and Connor Gater was absent from the squad altogether, and hasn't been available since appearing on the bench in the Emley FA Vase tie.
A shining light, however, has been the emergence of Jordan Lymn who has established himself as one of City's key men. Since signing in December, Jordan has barely missed a minute, and has been utilised all across the pitch, becoming a fan's favourite in the process.
Our hosts on Saturday, Brimscombe & Thrupp, have found results hard to come by of late. Since a 3-1 win over Cinderford Town at the beginning of the month, coming two weeks after the defeat at Claines Lane to City in the Semi Final of the Wiseman, they've gone on to lose their last four league games. They don't find themselves in any great danger however, having amassed 33 points from 28 games, the joint-least amount of games played in the league with City. They're 19 points clear of the drop having played less games than everyone else, and are in 15th place.
Both the league and Wiseman Cup fixtures at Claines Lane this season have ended in 3-0 wins for City, with Liam Lockett netting in both fixtures. He'll be hoping to add to his impressive season total on Saturday with a third against Brimscombe this campaign.
Saturday's fixture will be played at The Meadow, London Road, Brimscombe, Stroud, GL5 2SH.
