Worcester City travel to Stourbridge this evening to take on Lye Town at the Sports Ground in a 7:45pm kick-off.
Lye Town have been a thorn in City’s side over the previous few years, with the sides meeting numerous times whilst both plying their trade in the Midlands Premier Division. The previous meetings back in the torrid 2022-23 season saw Lye complete a league double over City, but the first meeting of the sides at Step 4 back in August turned out to be a comfortable victory with Elliott Keightley and Izak Reid on the scoresheet, giving City a 2-0 victory.
City will be looking to make it two wins from two against Lye in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division, and secure back-to-back victories for the first time since January.
The Blue And Whites will be riding a high following Saturday's strong showing against strugglers Rugby Town, running out 3-0 victors at Claines Lane. Lye Town, on the other hand, are without a win since the 21st of December, having lost 4 and drawn 4 since, most recently falling to defeat to Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday.
Lye are currently 20th in the standings but with a couple of games in hand on the teams around them. They will be searching for the 3 points on offer tonight to pull them within a solitary point of Bedworth Town in 18th, as they battle to avoid relegation.
City sit 4th currently, and whilst 3 points tonight wouldn't see them move up the table, it would close the gap to Long Eaton United and Corby Town to just 1 point. The points would be welcome too as Anstey Nomads, who are City's opponents on Saturday, are hot on their tail, just 3 points behind and with a game in hand.
Lye Town play at Stourbridge Rd, Lye, Stourbridge DY9 7DH
