Blue and Whites Hope to Shake Off Postponement Blues Against Darlaston Town
The Blue and Whites’ frustrating run of postponements continued midweek as their away fixture at Lye Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. However, Chris Cornes’ men will be eager to return to action this Saturday, welcoming Darlaston Town to Claines Lane for a 3pm kick-off in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division.
City will be eyeing three crucial points to keep the pressure on second-placed Corby Town. A victory could see City leapfrog The Steelmen, who face a tough away trip to Rugby Town. Additionally, a win would open up an 11-point cushion between City and Darlaston Town, who are battling to stay in playoff contention.
Darlaston Town won’t make it easy, though. The Citizens secured a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in October, and the visitors have shown their mettle in recent weeks. While they fell to a Boxing Day defeat against Sporting Khalsa, Darlaston previously recorded impressive wins over Rugby Town and AFC Rushden & Diamonds, along with a draw against league-leaders Quorn.
The Blue and Whites, meanwhile, will be raring to go after an extended break. Their last outing, a commanding 5-0 home win over Grantham Town on December 14th, showcased their attacking prowess and defensive solidity.
